Eine halbe Milliarde Nutzer:innen: OpenAI und ChatGPT haben ein ziemlich gutes Jahr
Casey Newton schreibt bei Platformer:
In most respects, OpenAI is having a banner year. The company's introduction last week of image generation in its 4o model took over social media — along with countless group chats — as people raced to transform their old photos into Studio Ghibli-style anime frames and countless other styles. Unlike previous models, it excels at rendering text, opening up a new world of graphic design (and receipt forging) for ChatGPT users.
It was the latest strong release from a company that has had a string of them in recent months, from its Sora video generation model to its take on deep research to the release of its experimental Operator agent. While OpenAI might be a weird company in many respects, the company's product teams do not seem to have suffered much from it.
On Monday, OpenAI celebrated a crowning moment: announcing that it has raised $40 billion, the largest private fundraising round in history, valuing the company at $300 billion. Among private companies, only SpaceX is valued more highly. ChatGPT now has 500 million weekly users — up 100 million from a month earlier — and 20 million paid subscribers.
